Evil is amongst us
I live in one of the reddest cities in America. I am a member of a church that has a high percentage of "red." And yet, even in these circumstances, the most insidious of ideas finds a toehold, a foothold, and sometimes even a firm place to stand.
I am speaking of the mockery of natural law called socialism. This economic and political institution claims that through its forced application men will become selfless and industrious members of a society of equals. You don't even have to take my word for it. Read these:
"Socialism, reduced to its simplest legal and practical expression, means the complete discarding of the institution of private property by transforming it into public property and the division of the resultant income equally and indiscriminately among the entire population." -George Bernard Shaw, a Fabian Socialist
"a short and comprehensive definition is impossible. We can only say, that Socialism is essentially a doctrine and a movement aiming at the collective organization of the community in the interest of the mass of the people by means of the common ownership and collective control of the means of production and exchange." –George Douglas Howard Cole, M.A. (treated socialism for the Encyclopedia Britannica)
Let me qualify my earlier statement that socialism is “forced” on men: Socialism is forced because those people, under any government that adopts such a system, who do not want to give up their private ownership and participate in the system, simply don’t have a choice. Socialism is either all or none.
Similar to socialism being applied to everyone or no one is the observation that the system needs complete compliance by everyone or else no one will truly benefit. If there is greed or corruption anywhere in the system, then the efficient and proper use of resources is undermined and the system collapses on itself. This essay ought to illustrate this more clearly: The Tragedy of the Commons. Read the section titled Tragedy of Freedom in a Commons.
I don’t know what else to say without coming across as a religious nut, so I’ll stop there for now. I hope my point got across to someone out there.
