A Way Out? (2)

How can we save ourselves, our families, and even our country? Desire and live a life of virtue.
Whatever your faith, creed, or system of belief you must make a thorough self examination. Pare down your life to the core virtues and principles that influence everything you do. If you find yourself lacking or without any core virtues, don't despair. In making the attempt you have shown desire to do right. That is the first step and perhaps the most important. Take that desire to improve and work with it. Seek out virtues and principles that are true. Then make those the modi operandi of your life. It will take time, but it will be worth it. You will have a greater sense of fulfillment in the things you do, you will attract people of similar caliber who will become lifelong friends, and you will form such a foundation for society that it will not fail.

Once you have found your core virtues and principles, stand up for them. Do not be afraid of what others will think or say. Stand up as an example and be a leader. There are precious few virtuous people who will lead. It will be lonely, but it is necessary. Be that parent who will take their kid out of school if the values taught are not appropriate. Be the informed citizen that can ask educated questions. Run for a local office and do your best to serve if elected. If nothing else, be a leading figure in your neighborhood. Give meaningful service to those around you. However or wherever you stand, stand tall and don't back down.

Having asked everyone to seek out the virtues and principles that drive their lives and to stand up for them, one might expect a varied response with so many different values that they cannot all coexist. I posit that just the opposite will occur. When taken to the core, all true religions, creeds, faiths, and systems have a similar, if not the same, set of virtues. There may be a difference in principles, or how the virtues are applied as rules of living, but once again they will be mostly similar and where they do differ they are still driven by the same virtues and will not violate others' principles.
